About Jonny and the Mental Breakdowns

Founded in 2013 by front man and song writer Jonny Ellams under the name The Breakdowns, Jonny & The Mental Breakdowns are a punk band from the UK’s city of roundabouts Milton Keynes stating influences from Stiff Little Fingers, @Bouncing Souls, and SNFU with songs about joy, mental health and cheap blow up Aldi Jacuzzis.

Jonny says - “We want everyone to feel safe at our shows and enjoy them as much we do, and prejudices have no place at them!”

In 2013 under the name The Breakdowns, the band released two albums, an EP and the notorious 'Merry Christmas You Cxxxs!’ single later to be covered by Frank Turner and Butch Walker. After the name change in 2016 they release the 'Self Confessed Idiot Machine' EP and open for likes of UK Subs, King Prawn, Silvain Sylvain, Cockney Rejects, Sham 69, Peter & The Test Tube Babies, Less Than Jake, The Adolescents, CJ Ramone, Bad Manners, Chron Gen, Vibrators, Barbed Wire Dolls, The Ramonas plus festivals and all-dayers appearances including Rebellion Festival.

The band used the 2020 lockdowns to produce the 'Lockdown Jams' EP’ raising funds for the NHS produced by new bassist Simon J Turner formerly of Apple Shift Seven.

2020 took a further turn when Jonny suffered a serious stroke. While his recovery continues so does his relentless songwriting. Jonny took a step back from guitar recruiting former fellow RSI member Nikki Rage and Ronnie Bottom. Jonny & The Mental Breakdowns continue to release new material.
