Brass Band
The band is a traditional brass band based in Somersham, a village 5 miles North of St Ives in Cambridgeshire. We are keen and enthusiastic amateur musicians who give our time freely for the joy of making music together in a relaxed and friendly environment.
The original Somersham Town Band was founded in 1919.
As well as the main band, Somersham Town Band has a training band, which is open to anybody who wishes to learn to play a brass instrument. This provides players with the opportunity to progress into the main band.
The main band rehearses twice a week on Thursday evenings from 8pm to 9.45pm in the Baptist church and on Sunday mornings from 10.30am to 12.15pm in the Victory Hall. Both rehearsal venues are in Somersham.
The training band rehearses only once a week on Thursday evenings from 7pm in the Baptist church in Somersham.
Jubilee Gardens is located at the popular Ely Riverside and provides the perfect link from the Riverside to the City Centre. The garden has open spaces for picnics and free play as well one of the five pieces of Eel Artwork. It also has a toddler play area, water feature and bandstand.
The gardens have secured Green Flag status since 2005. The award is designed to recognise and reward standards of excellence and is recognition of the high quality green space that the gardens provide to the local community in East Cambridgeshire.
