Description

Alder Valley Brass is one of the South East's finest brass bands, and provides music to enhance any occasion.

For more than 60 years Alder Valley Brass has performed at venues ranging from London's Royal Albert Hall, Windsor Castle, Epsom race course and Hampton Court Palace, to many of the UK's famous parks & bandstands. More recently, Alder Valley Brass were approached to provide a brass ensemble for the film ‘The Dig’ starring Carey Mulligan and Ralph Fiennes, which topped the viewing charts when it was released on Netflix.

Much of the band's concert work is in support of local charities and there have been proud moments working with Help for Heroes and the Royal British Legion, charities selected by the Mayor of Rushmoor at concerts, as well as The SSAFA and Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.

Description

Comprising 4.5 acres in the centre of the town the Public Gardens forms a delightfully pleasant oasis away from the main street bustle, with lawns, sheltering trees, shrubs, flower beds and children's play area (including special needs play equipment.)

The gardens open daily at 7.00am and are closed at 5.00pm from 29th October until 25th March.

The jewel in the crown of the Public Gardens has got to be the Bandstand, and as part of the Town Council's summer entertainment programme it provides the ideal setting for several free musical concerts for the local residents to enjoy.

Alton's new Bandstand was commissioned in 2012 to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen. The design retains the original base which now supports the new red, white and blue ornate steel structure sporting bosses of the Hampshire Rose, the Alton shield and diamond shaped lattice work.
