The Stratford Concert Band performs in and around the town of Stratford-upon-Avon, in beautiful Warwickshire.

Our repertoire covers selections from popular films and musicals, light classical arrangements and original works for concert band.

Stratford Concert Band is the primary concert band in Warwickshire and consists of some forty players. The instrumentation is that of a typical concert band – woodwind consisting of flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons and saxophones; brass including trumpets, trombones, horns, tuba and Sousaphone; and percussion.

Stratford Concert Band have origins which stretch back to 1973 when it was the South Warwickshire Schools Wind Band but in 1977, when the economic axe fell on music in schools, Stratford Concert Band was formed and the band became independent.

The band’s activities centre on the town of Stratford-upon-Avon and the surrounding villages with a range of formal concerts and outdoor appearances such as bandstands and fetes. The band supports both fundraising by local charities and civic occasions playing each year for the carol service in the centre of Stratford-upon-Avon, at the Remembrance Gardens on Remembrance Sunday and have been part of the Shakespeare Birthday celebrations in April. The band has been invited to play on several occasions when Royalty visited Stratford-upon-Avon.

Our rehearsal venue is currently Stratford Grammar School for Girls, Shottery, Stratford upon Avon.

We pride ourselves on being a friendly bunch of like minded musicians and welcome new players.

Description

The Stratford on Avon Bandstand stands in the heart of the bustling Recreation Ground just across the river from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and just a short stroll from the town.

It is a lovely spot to enjoy a summer's afternoon listening to one of the many excellent bands while watching the boats, swans and people go by.

The bandstand is managed by Stratford Town Trust and its programme of bands runs from May through to September. Most band performances start at 2.30 and run for two hours weather permitting.
