Brass Band
Launceston Town Band as you would imagine, takes its name from the Town of Launceston, situated on the northern border between Devon and Cornwall whose division is made by the River Tamar. In times past Launceston was regarded as the Ancient Capital of Cornwall. The Historic Castle which sits proudly high above the town has some impressive grounds that are sometimes used as a venue for outdoor events at various times of the year.
Launceston Town Band are a friendly group of brass musicians who rehearse weekly in preparation for concerts, contests, civic duties and anywhere we are invited to play. The band has enjoyed continued success over the past few years after climbing from the 4th Section back up to 3rd Section since 2013. This has been achieved by commitment from all the players, several of whom are under 18, all credit to them.
Over the last few years, the band has seen a rise in the number of under 18's that have joined the training, junior or senior bands. The junior band practice on Tuesdays from 18:30 to 19:30 and the training band practice on Thursdays from 18:30 till 19:30.
As a band, we never have our door closed, we are always looking for new members to join. Whether it be you are picking an instrument up for the first time or have been playing for years.
Launceston Town Square is the focal point for Launceston Town Centre and can be hired for a range of events. It is the perfect location for markets, street performers, entertainment and small scale events.
The Town Square is owned and maintained by Cornwall Council and managed by Launceston Town Council.
