Description

Greenwich Concert Band is regarded as one of South London’s foremost amateur concert bands attracting experienced and talented musicians from the surrounding areas. Many of Greenwich Concert Band's members are, or have been, professional musicians and tutors with a number coming from the senior military bands.

We also benefit from being supported by a wealth of young talent graduating from the Greenwich Youth Band - part of the Greenwich Academy of Music and Drama. However, we are always looking for new members.

The Band can cover a wide range of music allowing it to tailor performances to meet every concert’s needs. Our repertoire covers music from ‘stage and screen’ to light classics and traditional pieces and, with a number of ‘big-band’ musicians on board, the band excels in performing ‘40s swing’ and popular standards.

We perform concerts at a variety of venues throughout the South East which include concert halls, yacht/golf clubs, churches, ‘marquee’ events, bandstands and summer festivals ~ as well as carrying out fundraising activities for charities and other organisations.

Greenwich Park Bandstand Profile Pic

Description

Hexagonal bandstand surrounded by lawns and trees, with concerts for an audience in deckchairs.

Overlooking the River Thames and home to one of London’s most iconic views, Greenwich Park is an amazing mix of 17th century landscape, stunning gardens and a rich history that dates back to Roman times.

The Bandstand was erected in 1891, the same year as the park's only surviving Victorian granite drinking fountain, this Grade II listed structure is located on the south-east side of Great Cross Avenue. The field surrounding it is known as Bandstand Field.

The metal was cast by the Coalbrookdale Company, famous for its decorative ironwork. 40 years before, the company exhibited the Coalbrookdale Gates (now in Kensington Gardens) at the Great Exhibition. The iron bandstand in Montpellier Gardens, Cheltenham, was also cast at Coalbrookdale and erected in 1864 - making it the country's oldest surviving iron bandstand.

This bandstand is used today as a traditional meeting point for leisure activities and sponsored events.
