Description

Craig Sutton, better known as The Flamenco Thief, is an English guitarist whose phenomenal rise within the DIY music scene has seen him become one of the busiest touring artists in the country.

Specializing in fast rhythmic guitar playing Craig has earned a reputation for mesmerising live performances in which he uses a Spanish acoustic guitar with the Boss RC loop pedal to blend modern rhythms with time-honoured Flamenco techniques.

A particularly resourceful musician, Craig also utilizes the guitar as a percussive instrument, layering metronomic hip-hop beats by carefully beating the body; creating a unique energy that few solo instrumentalists manage to achieve.

Craig’s early influences of ska, hip-hop and gypsy swing are evident throughout his music, helping him craft a catalogue of songs that are intelligent but accessible.

Craig’s compositions revere Flamenco’s heritage while embracing music technology, and as a result each song is delicately poised between the classical and contemporary.

The Globe at Hay Profile Pic

Description

The Globe at Hay is an independent arts centre, embracing an ever changing arts landscape.

In 2008, Hilary Lawson, an already long standing resident of Hay-on-Wye, saw that the Methodist Chapel at the end of town was up for sale. Thinking that this uniquely creative town would benefit hugely from access to a gamut of arts and events, the globe was founded.

Believing firmly in the ‘Town of Books’, and its community, the globe pledges to invest in making a space where all can come together to share in culture and expression. We want to ensure that being based rurally is no barrier to exceptional events. In our programme you will find films, live music, talks & debates, workshops, art exhibitions, courses and schools’ opportunities. We believe that in a small community like Hay-on-Wye, an arts centre has a duty to work with its audience and listen to feedback so that the programme is always diverse and relevant.

Year round we showcase talent found on our doorstep and we are proud that we have a local audience drawn from the town, as well as people that travel from further afield. Over 10 days in May, when the world turns its attention to Hay-on-Wye for the festivals, the globe at hay is the home to the internationally renowned music and philosophy festival, HowTheLightGetsIn.

We have an education programme that focuses on creating work that encourages students and teachers alike to explore big topics through creative and experiential workshops. The globe is particularly committed to ensuring that our work has an impact on hard-to-reach young people, and this means that we are always exploring new funding streams to carry on this work.

At the globe you will find our cosy and welcoming cafe, run in collaboration with our Globe Kitchen. We celebrate food that is sourced and cooked sustainably, allowing our menus to evolve with the seasons. Not only do we support the local rural economy, we are certain you will find our menu utterly delicious!

The globe at hay exists to ensure that audiences from both near and far can find exemplary arts and events, in this unique and rural location. We look forward to welcoming you soon.

After his fantastic show last year, Craig Sutton, the Flamenco Thief returns to Hay.

Craig plays Spanish acoustic guitar with the Boss RC loop pedal to blend modern rhythms with time-honoured Flamenco techniques. Western, Eastern and African rhythms have allowed him to connect and build long lasting friendships with people all over the world. He has entertained crowds in Turkish parks, German kitchens, Serbian living rooms, Dutch hospitals, French chapels and so many more wonderfully unique locations.
