Maria sings from her heart and soul, she always has. She has played with many local musicians over the years, most recently in the Trill Bees. Before that she was a member of Ilkley band Clear with Charles for many years. We are very excited that she has now taken a sideways move to sing some sweet blues ... and what a great combination it has made.
Dr Bob has been playing the blues forever, it's just what he does. It's all about 'feel' for the Dr, if the band ain't feelin' it, it ain't the blues. He spent many years touring with Dr Brown and has certainly earned his own recent appointment as a Dr of the blues ... he holds the band together!
Born and raised on the wrong side of the tracks (well, Lancashire) Stuart grew up listening to the dirtier heavier side of the blues (OK, metal) . Unlike Samson, when the hair went the love of the blues stayed strong...
Kevin learned the drums from a laughin' and drinkin' jazz drummer and then was led astray into the blues at an early stage by Dr Bob; never quite the same since. A fan of the late Mitch Mitchel and John Bonham. Favourite combination: a beer tent and a music tent; preferably in a field somewhere. Claim to fame: once supported Faith No More and played with Jesse "Guitar" Taylor from Lubbock, Texas.
Many years ago Chris as a young lad served the legendary Peter Green a drink back when he played in Fleetwood Mac. Since that day the blues has stayed with him. Chris knows how to play a blues harp .. whether it's a heartfelt belting solo or one of his wonderful rhythmic under currents, his playing will encapsulate you.
The blues is the foundation to Charles' guitar style although strangely he has never played in a bluesband! Getting together with Dr Bob and the Bluesmakers is therefore a sort of 'coming home' in many ways and boy is he ready to play with your emotions with some truly heartfelt solos and licks
The Bandstand is located in the centre of Ilkley. It is on the southern side of The Grove which is a picturesque tree lined street of elegant shops and is directly opposite Betty's famous tearooms.
The Bandstand is surrounded by well kept gardens with permanent seating for those wishing to enjoy the performers.
The Bandstand was conceived as a millenium project by the Rotary Clubs of Ilkley Wharfedale & Ilkley and completed in 2001. The site was generously donated by the Ilkley Abbeyfield Society and both organisations, together with Ilkley Parish Council retain a keen interest as Trustees. An active management committee of volunteers run the bandstand and gardens on a day to day basis. They aim to provide appropriate entertainment for residents and visitors alike.
