Celtic folk-rock
Treebeard have been a popular attraction on the pub, festival & beer festival circuit for many years now, with regular appearances at Sheffield, Derby, Tamworth, Newark, Stockport, Lincoln, Stoke & Barnsley festivals, as well as Earls Court for the Great British Beer Festival, and the Cropredy fringe. In 2017 the band played at Rockstock & Barrel, Holmfirth Folk Festival, Altrincham, Marlpool & Hope Valley Beer Festivals, Sheffield's Sharrow & Peace in the Park Festivals, Worrall, Festival8, Farmer Phil's, Solfest, Tramlines, Lancaster and Whitwell Festivals.
The band play lively Celtic folk-rock; traditional & original songs & tunes on a variety of acoustic instruments, always guaranteed to get an audience up & dancing.
They describe their style as 'Heavy Wood', releasing a first CD of that name in 2002, and a second CD 'Reel Ale’ in 2010. Their video for 'Over The Hills' has won the runner up prize in the 2 weeks 2 make it filmmaking competition 2011, as well as attracting over 220,000 youtube views.
The band have been through a number of line-up changes over the years and are currently led by founder member Chris McMahon (of Haze, Strongheart, Silverwheel, Outlandish Knights, etc), with long time flautist/fiddler Ceri Ashton (Cadellin, Mother of Crows, Jabberwocky, Outlandish Knights), and new members; percussionist James Howe (Bellhagg Orkestar, Silver Darlings), singer/songwritier Rob Lowdon (Jabberwocky, Broadsword) and singer/guitarist Paul Pearson.
We have just released a new CD 'New Leaves', available at the concerts, our website and to download/stream from itunes, bandcamp, amazon etc.
The White Lion is, and always has been, a traditional pub. It has previously been named as a heritage inn by Tetleys for it's long history and internal decor. The pub dates back as far as 1781 when John Hasland was the Innkeeper for well over 20 years. Since then it has had many numerous Landlords, including such notables as Jonathan Woden - who was a famous 19th century cricketer - and Billy Mardsen of 1930s Sheffield Wednesday fame.
Scattered throughout the pub's various rooms and annexes you will find many pictures and documents which relate the history of The White Lion, all of which add to the ambience and make an interesting read.
The current management and staff team are dedicated to keeping the authentic feel of this magnificent pub alive by creating the warm and friendly atmosphere that real pubs are all about.
All welcome, all styles, all abilities, anything goes acoustic session hosted by Chris from Treebeard. Songs, tunes, poems, whatever you fancy
