Selected 15 at Nottingham Contemporary
A screening of bold new artists' moving image works from across the UK this summer
Nottingham Contemporary stands as a pivotal cultural institution within the East Midlands, recognised as one of the UK's foremost centres for contemporary art. This award-winning building, a registered charity, actively contributes to the city's cultural landscape, fostering dialogue and providing enriching learning opportunities for diverse audiences. Its presence on Weekday Cross anchors a vibrant creative quarter.
Inside, the expansive galleries offer a refined atmosphere, where the cool, textured concrete walls meet generous infusions of natural light, drawing attention to the art on display. A cavernous main gallery, with its impressive height, creates a sense of quiet contemplation, while strategically placed windows frame views of the historic Lace Market, subtly connecting the interior experience with the urban environment.
Practical amenities include Blend at Contemporary, the in-house cafe serving coffee and light meals, which extends onto an inviting outdoor terrace. The venue prioritises accessibility, offering accessible toilets, including a Changing Places facility, along with portable seating and noise-reducing headphones available upon request.
Beyond its exhibitions, Nottingham Contemporary hosts a dynamic programme of public events. These encompass thought-provoking talks, engaging film screenings, live music, and performance art. Regular family activities and popular craft and print fairs further broaden its appeal, ensuring a continuous flow of cultural engagement.
