Venue Premium Tickets - Gary Stewart presents: The Songs of Paul Simon Event Title Pic

York-based singer/songwriter Gary Stewart and his superb band return to York Barbican after a triumphant sell-out show in December 2024 to bring you an evening of the music of Paul Simon, including a special '40th Anniversary' performance of Simon's Classic 1986 Album, 'Graceland'. The first part of the evening will see Stewart perform versions of Simon's solo back catalogue, including his songs with Art Garfunkel, with the second part of the evening celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Graceland. So bring your diamond-soled shoes, your lie-la-lies and come dance and sing the night away! "Gary Stewart & his band masterfully recreated not just the sound of Paul Simon's Graceland album but also the energy and soul that makes the original recording such a huge joy to listen to. An ambitious and wonderful feat to achieve in a live performance." Underneath the Stars Festival

Description

York Barbican stands as a prominent cultural asset within the historic city, serving as York's largest entertainment venue. It consistently draws a significant audience, hosting over 200 events and welcoming more than 130,000 visitors each year. Beyond its commercial offerings, the venue plays a vital role in the community, providing a platform for diverse performances, from local ensembles to nationally recognised acts, and notably facilitating events such as the Annual Community Carol Concert, which contributes to local charitable causes.

Within its walls, the atmosphere shifts with each event, from the subtle thrum of anticipation before a major concert to the focused quiet of a conference. The main auditorium, with its adaptable seating and standing configurations, is designed to immerse audiences, while the public areas offer spaces for conversation and reflection. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee from the bars often mingles with the faint, lingering scent of stage smoke, creating a distinct sensory backdrop to the unfolding experiences.

Practical considerations are well-addressed, ensuring broad accessibility. The venue provides step-free access throughout its auditorium, meeting rooms, and bars, with a lift connecting to the upper level. Accessible toilet facilities are available on both floors, and a Sennheiser hearing assistance system is offered for those who require it. On-site bars provide a selection of refreshments, snacks, and alcoholic beverages, catering to patrons before and during events.

The Barbican's calendar is rich and varied, encompassing a broad spectrum of live entertainment. It regularly stages significant musical performances, stand-up comedy tours, and major sporting fixtures, including its long-standing association with the UK Snooker Championship. Additionally, the venue accommodates dance productions, family-oriented shows, and tribute acts, ensuring a dynamic and engaging programme that reflects a wide array of artistic and cultural interests.
