Following a stellar performance in 2025, Hejira return to Brewery Arts.
Hejira is an outstanding 7-piece band set up to celebrate and honour the masterpiece works of Joni Mitchell, mostly from the late ‘70s. Having released the albums The Hissing of Summer Lawns, Hejira, Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter and Mingus, Joni then toured briefly with a band formed from the crème de la crème of contemporaneous musicians (Metheny, Mays, Brecker, Pastorius and Alias). The tour was recorded, producing the much-lauded live album, Shadows And Light; it is from this album that the band Hejira is drawing the body of its repertoire.
Comprising highly experienced, world class musicians, this band is fronted by the brilliant Hattie Whitehead who not only has – in her own way – assimilated the poise, power and beauty of Joni’s vocals, but also plays guitar with Joni’s stylistic mannerisms. Expect an evening of the ‘great’ songs from Mitchell’s back catalogue, such as Amelia, Help Me, A Case Of You, Song For Sharon, Free Man in Paris and more.

Brewery Arts Centre stands as a significant cultural anchor in Kendal, a thriving arts organisation with a legacy spanning over fifty years. It functions as a dynamic hub for the North West, consistently delivering an inspiring programme of events and creative learning opportunities.

Within its historic walls, the atmosphere is one of understated sophistication. The blend of original brewery brickwork with contemporary design elements creates an inviting environment, where the subtle scent of old stone and polished wood lingers. Beyond the main performance areas, the centre encompasses tranquil gardens, two modern cinemas, a digital lounge, and a well-appointed bar and restaurant. Accessibility is a considered aspect, with facilities such as wheelchair spaces and induction loops available in its cinema screens. The bar and restaurant provide a relaxed setting for coffee, drinks, and meals, extending the visitor experience beyond scheduled events.

The programming here is broad, encompassing theatre, live music, comedy, film screenings, and exhibitions. It also hosts a range of lectures, dance performances, and creative learning courses for all ages.
