✨ Welcome to the fantastical worlds of Tim Burton! We invite you on a journey on Friday the 13th through the music that made them unforgettable. А unique concert will take place in the stunning Llandaff Cathedral located in the heart of Cardiff.
From the shimmering wonder of Alice in Wonderland to the festive magic of The Nightmare Before Christmas, from the haunting lyricism of Edward Scissorhands to the eccentric brilliance of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory — this concert immerses you in the soundscapes that shaped Burton’s unique cinematic universe.
At the heart of it all is the music of Danny Elfman, Burton’s lifelong collaborator and one of the most distinctive film composers of our time. Elfman’s music blends playfulness with menace, tenderness with grandeur — a perfect mirror of Burton’s visual imagination. Alongside Elfman, highlights include unforgettable moments from Corpse Bride, the cult favourite Beetlejuice, the gothic sweep of Batman, and the razor-sharp drama of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
In this premiere, Mystery Ensemble brings Burton’s worlds to life in unique arrangements. Expect soaring voices, bold instrumental colours, and an atmosphere that shifts in an instant — from the macabre to the magical, from the intimate to the epic.
This is not just a soundtrack concert — it is a live theatrical experience. The mysterious magic of the concert will be created by the connection between the musicians and the surrounding architecture.
Feel as if you are stepping inside a Tim Burton movie itself!

Llandaff Cathedral serves as a significant cultural and spiritual anchor for Cardiff and Wales, hosting a diverse calendar of events that extend beyond its primary religious function. It acts as a focal point for community engagement, drawing visitors and participants for various cultural and educational programmes throughout the year.
Within its ancient stone walls, a palpable sense of history permeates the air, often carrying the faint, sweet scent of old wood and beeswax. Light filters through stained-glass, casting shifting hues across the cool flagstone floors, creating an atmosphere of quiet contemplation and grandeur.
The Cathedral offers step-free access at its East and West ends, with a wheelchair available for use within the building. While parking in the immediate vicinity can be limited, free and unrestricted options are available nearby, and a small herb garden provides a tranquil outdoor space.
The venue regularly stages a range of public events, from musical performances and choral recitals to art classes, talks, and family-focused activities. These programmes often highlight both local talent and broader cultural themes, contributing to the region's artistic and intellectual landscape.
