FLAMIN' GROOVIES
'Shake Some Action' 50th anniversary tour.
"The Flamin' Groovies may be the greatest rock and roll band to ever come out of San Francisco." Rolling Stone Magazine
Flamin' Groovies announce a handful of dates this autumn to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their iconic Power Pop song (and album) 'Shake Some Action'.
Originally formed in San Francisco by Cyril Jordan and Roy Loney in 1965, Flamin' Groovies released their first three seminal albums 'Supersnazz', 'Flamingo', and 'Teenage Head' before Roy Loney left the group in 1971. Chris Wilson replaced Loney and the band went on release their now classic albums betweern 1976-1979 - 'Shake Some Action', 'Flamin' Groovies Now' and 'Jumpin' In The Night'.
In 1976, Flamin' Groovies headlined the Roundhouse in London with support from Ramones and The Stranglers. This legendary concert has been cited as one of the influences behind the punk rock scene.
The 'Teenage Head' album is listed in the 2006 book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
Description
Trinity Centre stands as a vital cultural hub for East Bristol, a testament to the city's independent spirit and a significant asset for community arts. Managed by Trinity Community Arts Ltd, a registered charity, its mission extends beyond commercial enterprise, aiming to empower local communities through accessible arts and cultural programming.
Within its Grade II listed walls, the former church retains a distinctive atmosphere. Sunlight often streams through the original stained-glass windows, casting shifting colours across the space, while the sprung wooden floor beneath offers a subtle give, hinting at countless nights of movement and celebration. The ornate stonework provides a backdrop that speaks of history, yet feels entirely contemporary.
Practical considerations are well-addressed, with a commitment to accessibility ensuring a welcoming environment for all visitors. Refreshments are readily available, complementing the diverse programme of events. The venue also features outdoor spaces, providing a breath of fresh air during longer engagements.
The programming here is broad, encompassing a spectrum of live music genres from rock and reggae to electronic and world music, alongside vibrant club nights. Beyond the auditory, Trinity hosts dance and theatre performances, educational workshops, and a variety of community gatherings, reflecting its dedication to a wide array of artistic and social expressions.
