Friday 24th April 2025
Middlesbrough Empire

Massive Wagons, the UK rock powerhouse, formed in 2009 through sheer small town boredom and an appetite for loud and live music.
Fronted by Baz Mills, each member pours their heart, soul, and sweat into every performance. 100% dedication is the name of their game – a tradition they've inherited from their rock idols.
Currently under the wing of indie label Earache, Wagons have stormed the UK Official Album Chart top 20 multiple times, peaking at an impressive number 6. But they're far from slowing down.
Their relentless energy isn't confined to the stage; it fuels their tireless work ethic. Touring the UK and Europe is their second nature, sharing stages with legends like Lynyrd Skynyrd in arenas, The Wildhearts and Ugly Kid Joe in the clubs, The Darkness and Thunder in theatres; Massive Wagons have conquered them all.
The band are preaching the word far and wide in 2024, with a European jaunt supporting Kissin’ Dynamite in October but they’re not just about gigs; festivals are their natural stomping ground. From Wacken to Mystic Fest, Alcatraz to Rock For People, they're leaving their mark across the continent.
Prepare for face-melting shows, anthemic tunes, and an all-or-nothing attitude.
Don't pass up the chance to witness one of Europe's hardest-working, hardest-rocking bands in action.

The Empire, a venerable institution on Corporation Road, stands as a significant cultural asset for Middlesbrough and the wider North East. Opened in 1897, this former palace of varieties is one of the region's oldest entertainment venues, consistently undergoing restoration to maintain its status as a thriving live music and performance hub. It actively champions emerging talent, serving as a vital grassroots music venue.
Inside, the venue's rich history is palpable, with the grand proscenium arch stage and intricate original plasterwork on the balcony fronts evoking a sense of enduring grandeur. The air often thrums with anticipation, a vibrant energy that permeates the three distinct floors, each contributing to the venue's dynamic atmosphere. The detailed "Spanish Renaissance" style architecture provides a visually engaging backdrop to every event.
Practical considerations are well-addressed, with the venue offering wheelchair-accessible entrances and restroom facilities, alongside a system for companion passes to ensure broader access. As a privately owned establishment, The Empire boasts a diverse bar offering, unconstrained by brewery ties, catering to a wide array of preferences.
Throughout the year, The Empire hosts a varied programme, from high-energy club nights featuring prominent DJs to live performances spanning numerous genres. It provides a platform for both established artists and burgeoning acts, ensuring a continuous flow of engaging events for the local community and visitors alike.
