The Irish World Heritage Centre serves as a vital cultural and events hub for Manchester's Irish community, extending its reach as a significant national asset for heritage and contemporary gatherings. It functions as a major centre for the Irish community in the northwest of England, hosting a diverse programme of traditional cultural activities and acting as a focal point for community engagement.
Inside, the atmosphere cultivates a welcoming warmth, often accompanied by the subtle scent of freshly brewed coffee from the cafe. The Wild Geese Bar, with its panoramic views of the Manchester skyline, offers an intimate setting, where the smooth curves of the design and imported Irish materials evoke a sense of connection to Ireland.
Beyond the main spaces, a large, enclosed garden provides an outdoor retreat, framed by an Iron-Age Celtic fort-style wall. The venue is fully accessible, with no stairs to enter the building or access the landscaped outdoor area, and a lift ensures all function rooms are reachable. The Wild Geese Bar serves a range of drinks and offers Sunday roasts, while a cafe provides Irish breakfasts and light bites.
Throughout the year, the centre hosts a varied calendar of events, from cultural programmes including Irish dance, music, writing, and language classes, to larger public gatherings. It accommodates parties, banqueting events, conferences, and even commemorative events, alongside plays, films, and poetry readings.
