Charlie Piggott was one of the founding members of De Danann, with whom he toured extensively in Europe, Canada and the US and has recorded several albums. He was also a member of the Irish musical group invited by the Smithsonian Institute to participate in the festival of American Folklife (1976) as part of the bi-centennial celebrations. Charlie plays in the old style and many of his seminal recordings have caused him to be hailed as “one of the most influential Irish banjoists of the generation”.
Rowan Piggott grew up in the foothills of the Burren on the west coast of Ireland surrounded by traditional music. Both his father, Charlie (of De Dannan) and his mother, Frances (who taught him the fiddle) were key figures in his musical development.
Green Note was founded by two friends and passionate music lovers who wanted to create their ideal place to hang out in London...
Our dream was to create a place where we could share music that we loved – somewhere with a laid back, intimate and friendly atmosphere. Becoming friends in our school days, the seed for our idea was planted many years ago. After lots of hard work, many ups and downs, and learning more than we ever could have imagined along the way, our dream became a reality when Green Note opened its doors in the Summer of 2005. Now in our fourteenth year, we have established a reputation as one of London’s best spots for roots, world and acoustic music, and we’re constantly astonished by the wealth of incredible musicians who grace our stage. We’re really proud of what we have created, and happy to be able to share it with you.
