“There is nowhere to turn to, but to yourself.”
In this powerful show, composer and vocalist Anna Pool celebrates the life and legacy of one of the 20th century’s most distinctive, and too often overlooked, songwriters – Dory Previn. Joined by double bassist Nina Harries, Anna traces Dory’s extraordinary journey: from her early success as a lyricist writing for legends such as Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra, to her evolution as a fearless solo artist whose deeply personal folk albums captivated hearts and led her to Carnegie Hall.
Unflinchingly raw, by turns comic and poetic, Dory’s songs explored everything from Hollywood dreams to devastating psychosis to the fervent power of road rage. With wit, candour and compassion, Anna and Nina reimagine this remarkable catalogue, illuminating both the courage and vulnerability that defined Dory’s work.
A rare opportunity to experience these songs anew, this performance brings Dory Previn’s legacy out of the shadows and into the light — vibrant, defiant, and unmistakably her own.
Anna Pool is a composer and performer working across theatre, folk music and opera. She is ¼ of genre-bending folk quartet, Wise Woman playing across the UK from Celtic Connections to Aldeburgh Festival.
Nina Harries is a double bassist and songwriter whose work has toured the world alongside the likes of Anoushka Shankar, Akram Khan and Katie Melua.

Green Note was founded by two friends and passionate music lovers who wanted to create their ideal place to hang out in London...
Our dream was to create a place where we could share music that we loved – somewhere with a laid back, intimate and friendly atmosphere. Becoming friends in our school days, the seed for our idea was planted many years ago. After lots of hard work, many ups and downs, and learning more than we ever could have imagined along the way, our dream became a reality when Green Note opened its doors in the Summer of 2005. Now in our fourteenth year, we have established a reputation as one of London’s best spots for roots, world and acoustic music, and we’re constantly astonished by the wealth of incredible musicians who grace our stage. We’re really proud of what we have created, and happy to be able to share it with you.
