Swing Manouche

Swing Manouche were formed by Mick Shoulder, the leader and songwriter of former gypsy
jazz outfit "Djangologie".
Based upon Django Reinhardt's second group; the Nouveau Quintette du Hot Club de
France.​and giving a slightly harder and more modern edge to the music than his previous
ensemble, Swing Manouche are a hard swinging gypsy jazz outfit. 
Authentic originals are still very much a main ingredient but Swing Manouche are as likely to
take from more modern gypsy players as well as Django and traditional musette.  
They have been featured on the world famous ‘Django Festival’ series of albums on Hot
Club Records and have served as the backing band for the renowned French violinist Daniel
John Martin.



Widely praised by critics and audiences alike, DJM is celebrated as a leading figure in
“Gypsy jazz,” a genre inspired by Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli’s work in the
1930s. His style is rooted in this rich tradition, yet he infuses it with his own approach,
blending classical technique with vibrant improvisational jazz. A virtuoso performer with a
captivating stage presence, he is regarded as one of the most innovative violinists in Gypsy
jazz.
Daniel’s compositions and improvisations reflect a romantic influence with intense musicality
and technical prowess. This unique blend of classical and jazz elements has become DJM’s
hallmark, making him a standout performer at clubs and festivals around the world.
