The Woodville stands as Gravesend's enduring cultural heartbeat, a multi-purpose venue deeply woven into the fabric of the local community. Owned by Gravesham Borough Council, it serves as a vital public space, consistently delivering a dynamic programme of theatre, live performances, community projects, gallery exhibitions, cinema, and live broadcasts. It provides a significant cultural home for local dance schools and amateur groups, actively working to re-engage residents with a diverse and enriching calendar of entertainment.
Within its modernist architecture, the main auditorium offers a versatile space, capable of seating up to 650 patrons across three levels, or transforming into a flat floor for cabaret-style events. Beneath, The Studio provides a more intimate setting for performances and a monthly comedy club, where the murmur of conversation often precedes the first laugh. The subtle scent of polished wood and the hushed anticipation before a curtain rises contribute to an atmosphere of shared experience.
Practical considerations are well-addressed, with accessible toilets, ramped access, and lifts ensuring ease of movement across all main levels. Wheelchair spaces are thoughtfully integrated into both the Auditorium and Studio, and assistance dogs are welcomed.
