Hope Not Hate Benefit w/Gerard Love, Supersun + Guests Event Title Pic

Description

We here at Glas-Goes Pop HQ believe in inclusivity, solidarity, and the basic rights and dignity of all people. We’re proud to stand firmly against hatred, division and the politics of fear, and grateful to use our little corner of the cultural world to support causes we can stand behind. That being said, we’re delighted to announce this special matinee benefit show for Hope Not Hate at our fave local, the Glad Cafe.

HNH builds hope and counters the politics of hate through research, intelligence, campaigning and community engagement. HNH advocates for change online and on the ground to defeat the far right, which is the fastest growing terror threat to the UK.

With Reform on the rise in Scotland and across the UK, HNH’s current focus is building a movement of people determined to challenge this rise, expose their tactics, and push back in communities across the country.

As a couple of Americans watching the daily horror show unfold back home, we’ve seen how quickly fear and division can be weaponised, and how easily the far right can gain ground when hatred is allowed to pass as politics. We don’t want to see that happen in our adopted home.

Thank you to our generous artists who are participating in this benefit. A deep bow to the one and only Gerard Love, one of our favourite songwriters and a righteous human being. We’re also excited to be working with Supersun for the first time, a group of enthusiastic music makers stirring up a little scene of their own in Glasgow. Come check out their timeless melodies! We’ve also got a little surprise in store.

Join us for an afternoon of great music and positive energy and vibes and say ‘No’ to hate!

Description

The Glad Cafe stands as a vital cultural anchor within Glasgow's Southside, operating as a not-for-profit music venue and licensed cafe. More than a commercial enterprise, it functions as a social enterprise, channelling resources into The Glad Foundation, a sister charity dedicated to providing accessible music education for local young people. This commitment extends its reach beyond entertainment, establishing it as a genuine community asset.

Inside, the atmosphere is one of considered comfort, where the scent of freshly brewed coffee and plant-based cuisine mingles with the quiet hum of conversation. The space is thoughtfully appointed with recycled materials and second-hand furnishings, creating an environment that feels both lived-in and purposeful. The venue area, known for its excellent acoustics, offers an intimate setting for performances.

As a fully vegan establishment, the cafe offers a diverse menu from morning pastries and substantial brunches to evening Indian street food, complemented by a curated selection of craft beers, wines, and soft drinks. The entire premises, including the performance space, is wheelchair accessible via ramps, and features accessible toilet facilities, welcoming assistance dogs throughout.

Beyond its daily cafe operations, The Glad Cafe hosts a dynamic programme of events. The venue regularly stages performances spanning various musical genres, alongside film screenings, spoken word evenings, philosophical discussions, and visual art exhibitions. This broad artistic remit ensures a continuous platform for both emerging local talent and established acts, fostering a rich cultural dialogue within the community.
