Description
A special Wednesday night at Jamboree with The Pegwells putting their own twist of the old time tunes of the Appalachians...
The Pegwells are a band of folk playing the old time tunes of the Appalachian mountains and the broader south. The band was formed in 2021 by Bianca Wilson (banjos) and Rebekah Bouche (guitar) as a way to claim space in a scene that marginalises non-male and non-white people.
They are here to expand ingrained ideas of who this music belongs to and why; highlighting and dismantling the erasure of black contribution to traditional banjo and fiddle music, and are on a mission to embody a fuller, more honest history, that tracks the heritage of these tunes back to West Africa as well as here to the British Isles. Through this act of reclamation, their aim is to re-establish this music we love as a site and means of radical inclusion. Folk for the folk!
Jamboree food option: Our ‘Zer’ kitchen is open from 5pm serving delicious Middle Eastern fusion food for you to enjoy a pre-gig meal/snack if you wish!
