EMIL KARLSEN (drums)
Norwegian improvising drummer currently based in the UK. Described as a “significant addition to the UK free jazz scene” and an “exceptional improv drummer”, he explores the full timbral and sonic possibilities of the drum kit across free improvisation and free jazz. He has worked with Philipp Wachsmann, Matthew Bourne, Phil Durrant, John Butcher, Maggie Nicols and the London Improvisers Orchestra, among others.

DIMINIC LASH (electric guitar)
Freely improvising double bassist and electric guitarist, called an “exceptional creative musician” by the Free Jazz Collective. He also writes and performs composed music and works as an academic researching film. Collaborators include John Butcher, Joe Morris, Evan Parker, Pat Thomas, Nate Wooley, Angharad Davies and Alex Ward; he has performed with the late Tony Conrad, Steve Reid and John Russell. Based in Cambridge, he runs the Soundhunt series and the Spoonhunt label.

JOHN EDWARDS (double bass)
One of the most active and inventive double bassists on the London and European free improvisation scenes since the early 1990s. A true virtuoso whose range of techniques and musical imagination have significantly expanded the possibilities of the instrument. He has performed and recorded with Evan Parker, Peter Brötzmann, Sunny Murray, Lol Coxhill, Joe McPhee, Mark Sanders, Tony Bevan and countless others, averaging 150–200 gigs a year and remaining a mainstay of the London scene.
COLIN WEBSTER (saxophones)
London-based saxophonist establishing himself on the European avant-garde scene. Known for working across extreme sonic palettes – from minimal to maximal – he constantly pushes the boundaries of the instrument. He collaborates widely in free improvisation and experimental music, runs the Raw Tonk label, and has released numerous solo and group recordings that range from intense free-jazz assaults to deeply focused textural studies.

CHRIS CUNDY (clarinet / bass clarinet)
Bass clarinettist, saxophonist and rarified woodwind player, composer, performer and sound installation artist based in the South West of England. Self-taught after discovering Eric Dolphy, he has released four solo albums and developed extended techniques including multiphonics, circular breathing and microtonality. Collaborations range from free improvisation and contemporary composition to pop and songwriting (including Guillemots, Little Annie and Baby Dee); he has also worked extensively in theatre, film and site-specific sound installations.

The Fishermen's Chapel stands as a testament to Leigh-on-Sea's enduring community spirit, evolving from its 18th-century Methodist roots into a dynamic hub for arts, culture, and local engagement. This historic venue, originally founded following John Wesley's visit in 1748, now serves as a vital gathering place, fostering connection and creativity within Old Leigh and beyond.
Within its walls, a distinct atmosphere prevails. The main chapel space, built into the cliff, offers a sense of quiet contemplation, where the acoustics lend a natural resonance to spoken word and music, and the subtle scent of aged timber often mingles with the fresh tang of sea air carried in from the nearby estuary. The adjacent community room provides a more contemporary, comfortable setting, adaptable for various gatherings.
Practical considerations are well-addressed, with a pay-and-display car park conveniently located opposite the building, offering free parking after 6 pm. The venue ensures accessibility with disabled access toilets and a gently sloped approach to the chapel area.
