John Tams, described by Mojo as 'one of the ultimate British songwriters' has had a career spanning four decades in every medium. A key member of the renowned folk/rock Albion Band and later Home Service, he is perhaps best known for his work as Musical Director at the National Theatre and as Rifleman Daniel Hagman in the Sharpe television series, the music for which he co-wrote. He also wrote, performed in, and produced much of the original BBC Radio Ballads series.
More recently, he wrote the music and was involved in the direction of the War Horse theatre production, for which he was nominated for an Olivier Award. In 2013, he sang to an estimated television audience of 53 million when he performed "Only Remembered" to the Queen, the Royal Family, Heads of State, serving and retired soldiers and their families at the Royal Festival of Remembrance, live from the Royal Albert Hall.
As a musician, Tams has contributed to over 50 albums as a singer, musician or producer, including three solo albums to date, all of which met with critical acclaim.
He is also a six-times winner of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
Returning to the venue by popular demand, Tams will again be joined by his colleague of many years, the widely respected singer and keyboard player Barry Coope.
