Fresh off the back of their tour with Edwyn Collins, Gabi Garbutt & The Illuminations are celebrating the release of their debut album 'The Discredited Language of Angels', produced by Sean Read (Dexys Midnight Runners/ Beth Orton/ Chrissie Hynde) and recorded in part at Edwyn Collins' Clashnarrow studio in Helmsdale.
Gabi Garbutt's music combines a poetic edge with a visceral energy, inspired by the lyrical rock'n'roll of cultural giants Patti Smith and The Clash, and the speedy, multi-layered drive of Northern Soul. Her expressive, captivating performances are backed by the pulsating electric sounds and sweet harmonies of her band, The Illuminations.
Gabi and The Illuminations were personally invited by both Frank Turner and The Libertines to support them at major shows, and their recent single 'Lady Matador' was chosen by Philadelphia's WXPN FM's Krisetn Kurtis as one of her top five releases of 2018.
Chris Brambley's haunting, graceful songs are rooted in the folk tradition. With a clear nod to the folk revival styles of Bert Jansch, John Renbourn and Davy Graham, they are at the same time wholly contemporary interpretations of the genre. His newly released 'Aperture E.P' shares common ground with modern day folk innovators Fionn Regan and Nick Mulvey.
