Genre : Music - Classical

Description

Hiromi Okada studied at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo where he graduated with the highest honours. He won first prizes in three international piano competitions in Barcelona, Tokyo and Pretoria, then moved to London to study with Maria Curcio before making his Wigmore Hall debut in 1985 and receiving outstanding critical acclaim undoubtedly a star of the future (Daily Telegraph). Hilary Finch has commented in the Times, A technique of massive assurance, imaginatively developed to articulate a passionately engaged musical understanding

Recently as well as touring extensively in Japan and throughout Europe, he has appeared as a soloist with the Philharmonia, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra and major Japanese Orchestras.

He also has performed at the numerous international festivals including Mayfest (Glasgow), La Roque d'antheron (France), Great Romantic Festival (Canada), Istanbul International Piano Festival, Philharmonic Week (Austria), and Kusatsu International Summer Music Academy & Festival.

CDs are regularly released from Camerata Tokyo, Toshiba-EMI and NAXOS, receiving excellent reviews.

Pyrotechnics were awesome and the orchestral power and lucidity of texture was ravishing( Malcolm Miller admires the virtuosity of Hiromi Okada)

Amazing, seldom heard such clarity of detail range of dynamic expression and powerful drama brought together in music. The audience not only moved by Okada's emotional expressiveness were also awed by his technical powers(Hugh Fraser, Hamilton Spectator)

an achievement that affirms a Beethoven pianist of the first order. Phenomenal dexterity, crystalline textures and assured structural projection are qualities integral to Beethoven performance especially where the monumental Hammerklavier is concerned. (Bela Bernard,Arietta)

Okada will play:

Beethoven - Piano Sonata in C# minor "quasi una fantasia" Op.27 No.2 (Moonlight)
Brahms - Variations on a theme of Paganini Op.35
Akira Miyoshi - En Vers (1980)
Chopin - 3 Waltzes Op.64
Chopin - Mazurka in F minor Op. posth (reconstruction of the sketch by J. Ekier)
Chopin - Piano Sonata No.2 in Bb minor Op.35

The Chopin Society piano is a superb 2015 Hamburg Steinway Model B Grand, chosen for us by Steinway's Head of Artist & Technical Services, Ulrich Gerhartz. It is maintained by Steinways and tuned by them immediately before each recital.

After the concert we offer an informal Reception with a delicious traditional English afternoon tea buffet of freshly made sandwiches, savouries and homemade cakes, accompanied by your choice of wine, tea, coffee or juice. You also get the chance to meet the pianist. This costs £7 (discounts available for students). Tea tickets can be bought on the door. We can cater for up to 75 people.
