Description

The husband-and-wife team of Stu and Debbie Hanna, known as Megson, are one of the successful curiosities of the British folk scene. She is a classically trained singer who plays piano, accordion and whistle, while he is a former prog-rocker who sings and plays guitar, mandolin and banjo. The duo hail from Teesside but are now ex-pats in Cambridgeshire. They have been nominated in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards three times and are double winners of the Spiral Earth Awards.

Megson draw heavily on their Teesside heritage to create their truly unique brand of folk music, bringing an infectious mix of heavenly vocals, lush harmonies and driving rhythmic guitars. They have gained fame on the British folk scene, not only for their arresting and intelligent songwriting, but for their exquisite musicianship; their harmonisation and the purity of Debbie's voice make compelling listening. They have a melodic roots consciousness and a huge sense of individuality coupled with a good dollop of Northern humour. As fRoots magazine puts it 'if you don't like the music here then you have a problem'.
