I love this album and I love this lady Lauren Laverne, BBC 6 Music

MALKA first made waves on the music scene as Tamara Schlesinger, the frontwoman of acclaimed alt-folk collective 6 Day Riot and also as a prolific songwriter. Her past work has been included in a host of high-profile scenes for TV series and Hollywood blockbusters most notably Skins, Scream 4 and 127 Hours.

Now as MALKA - she weaves mesmeric percussive rhythms among a charge of irresistible call and response chants, she explores a carnival of global sounds.

Her highly praised albums have received steady support at BBC 6 Music from the likes of Lauren Laverne, Chris Hawkins and Steve Lamacq and scenes on The Home Depot advert and various programmes on Netflix and MTV. Her music has found favour on BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 1, Amazing Radio has been playlisted on BBC Radio Scotland. She has also received critical acclaim in high profile press such as The Independent, The Line Of Best Fit and The Skinny and Drowned In Sound.

Tamara has played numerous live shows, from stages at Glastonbury and Bestival to support slots with Deacon Blue, Tim Minchin and Belle and Sebastian.

MALKA's latest album which received funding from Creative Scotland sees her expanding her acclaimed dream-pop palette with a breadth of delectable synths, which leads to her most mesmeric sound yet. 'I'm Not Your Soldier' will be released on Tantrum Records on 28th Feb 2020.

I don't believe in genres - I believe in songs

The people of Britain may not know it yet but Gideon Conn is one of their national treasures Scroobius Pip

Manchester based artist and musician Gideon Conn has been astonishing crowds in the UK . He is a uniquely gifted songwriter who uses a broad spectrum of music to conjure up songs that you will never have heard the like of before. Whether solo acoustic or with his lively and lovable band, he never fails to fill you with wonder and leave you with a massive grin!

Gideon's took a degree in fine art, where he quickly established a reputation for playing the piano in the main gallery and using the whole building as his studio space for outlandish sculptures.

The band formed around Gideon in 2005, and have gone from strength to strength. They have wowed at major festivals and toured with some fantastic artists. They released a catchy, hip hop/indie crossover single called 'i want you around' which was well received by radio - playlisted on Xfm and awarded breakfast single of the week on BBC 6 Music as well being championed by Huw Stevens and Rob da Bank on Radio 1.

Eagle Inn Profile Pic

Description

Located in Salford just a stone’s throw from Deansgate and Victoria train station, The Eagle Inn is a friendly, relaxed and traditional local pub with a long history dating all the way back to 1848.

But there’s much more to The Eagle Inn than just the traditional bar. In 2014 a terraced house that stood empty next door to the pub was converted into a bespoke, fully functioning 80 capacity venue complete with raised stage and balcony, all the while retaining some of the house’s original features (look out for the fireplace – you’ll know it when you see it).

As well as working with established and longstanding promoters from Greater Manchester and beyond, The Eagle Inn prides itself on being a welcoming, supportive space and a creative hub for the area’s grassroots artistic communities; with many now successful bands, artists, performers and promoters cutting their teeth within its walls.

Thanks to this rare combination of space, attitude and approach, The Eagle Inn is able to accommodate a full calendar of live music, spoken word, comedy, theatre, film screenings, exhibitions and much more on almost every night of the week.

A hidden gem of a traditional back street boozer and commonly known to the locals as the Lamp Oil. There are three small rooms off a central corridor with a central bar. It is a Grade II listed building dating from 1902. There is a fine terracotta plaque of an eagle with the name above the door and for years this was the only pub sign.

Family Friendly at licensee's discretion.
