Genre : Music - Folk/blues/world
This first concert of the Poppy Folk Day will get the afternoon off to a great start with a real variety of sounds. Stonesthrow are a recent collaboration between Tony Fowkes and Derby duo, Steve and Julie Wigley. Discovering that they lived a 'stones throw' apart, they got together to try some acappella songs and found to their astonishment that it worked quite well! They sang together at Moira Furnace Folk festival (in the bar tent, where else?) and the audience reaction was encouraging. They subsequently performed in the Fringe at Derby Folk Weekend. They have begun recording an album together, due out in the Spring.
Terry Maxwell is lead singer/guitarist of popular local band The Cellotapes, and in this solo gig will give you a taste of what makes audiences love them! Lively and up-beat, Terry will deliver songs from different genres, and maybe some original compositions.
To start the afternoon, some of the Poppy Regulars - Julie Palmer & Phil Preen, Dorothy Plater's Trio, and Ian Price - will showcase their talents.
