The Big Cuban Social comes to Preston with Afro Cuban duo SON Y RUMBA taking you on a Cuban musical journey to the sounds of traditional Afro Cuban rumba, son, bolero, cha cha cha & salsa descargas. The night features a pre-party Cuban dance class (beginners welcome), live Cuban drumming with the audience followed by dancing to the finest Cuban Son, Cha Cha Cha, Timba & Salsa with DJ IRMITA.

Gerardo de Armas is an accomplished percussionist and singer who has lived and breathed Afro-Cuban music, and Rumba in particular, since birth.

He is an ex-singer of the world-renowned Grammy winners Yoruba Andabo, with whom he performed both at major venues and festivals in Cuba and internationally.

His voice is easily distinguished on the recordings of such great bands as Irosso Obbá and The London Lukumi Choir. Gerardo is the founder and leader of the band Gerardo y su Rumba Aché, based in London. In the UK, he has performed at venues like the Royal Opera Hall, the Jazz Cafe and the Forge. His collaborations as percussionist and singer include artists like Eliel Lazo and Carlos Acosta.



Suso Mejia is a Colombian singer, bass player and guitarist who comes from a long line of family musicians.

In his birth place of Caldas, he played bass guitar alongside his father and brothers in el Combo Kalamari, where he performed Latin American ballads and the Colombian rhythms of cumbia, porro, corrido, bolero and vallenato. In the UK he has performed as a Salsa vocalist and bass player at Jazz festivals, congresses, and Latin events and has shared the stage as a percussionist with some of Cuba's finest artists. His deep, sensual, seductive singing style and amazing swing on the maraca, guiro and campana will captivate the audience.

7:30pm Pre-Show Salsa Dance Class (beginners welcome)
8:30pm 1st Band Set (Afro Cuban & Traditional Son)
9:15pm DJ Irmita ( playing Salsa/ Latin / Afro Cuban )
9:30pm 2nd Band Set (Bolero Cha Cha & Salsa)
10:15pm to close DJ Irmita & Afro Cuban -(playing Son, Cha Cha Cha , Timba & Salsa)

Our regional, seasonal kitchen serves up restaurant quality fresh food with daily specials and favourites, and we’re the indie culture venue of choice in Preston with cinema, theatre, music and more on weekly in our arts space.
