Description

The Industrial History of Brampton along the River Hipper

Arkwright Society Evening Talk

7.00pm Cheese & Wine: 7.30pm Talk starts

The River Hipper rises in the moors above Chatsworth, meandering down through Holymoorside into Chesterfield. Early industries developed in the Walton and Brampton area to use the waterpower on the approach to Chesterfield. Join Cliff Lea as he tells us about cotton and bobbin mills, potteries, foundries and forges. In particular Walton Bump Mill, an early cotton mill listed Grade II* for its fireproof construction and the listed Cannon Mill which had produced cannon and ball for the Napoleonic and American wars. Cannon Mill had also cast the iron pillars and parts for fireproofing not only for Walton Mill but Belper North Mill too.

Cost: £8. Your ticket includes cheese and wine.
