The Real Music Club Presents .... Steve Hovington + Trim Tab Man Event Title Pic

Description

The Real Music Club seeks to find the best music we can that we believe will inspire and entertain. Focusing on originality and uniqueness we pride ourselves on putting something different on every month in Brighton & Hove. This month we present ....

STEVE HOVINGTON is best known as frontman of B-Movie who released three critically acclaimed singles, 'Remembrance Day', 'Marilyn Dreams', and their synthpop masterpiece 'Nowhere Girl' on the Some Bizzare label in the post punk era of the early 80s. The band featured on the Stevo Pearce curated 'Some Bizarre'compilation album of unsigned electropop, new wave futurist bands, which also included Depeche Mode, Blancmange and The The. Their 1981 John Peel session is still regarded as a classic, with 'Remembrance Day' making Peel's Festive Fifty that year. B-Movie reformed in 2004 and have gone on to release two further albums cementing their legacy as the great 80s band that should have been, updating their "rich, lush .... majestically melodic, powerfully atmospheric" sound, continuing to make "dynamically beautiful pop songs" (NME)

Aside from B-Movie Steve has been involved in several bands and projects, soundtracked the 'Oblique' photographic exhibition by acclaimed avant garde photographer Dolores Marat at the Open Eye Gallery and authored 'The Grape Escape : One Man's Journey from Vinyl to vine'. As well as telling the story of his attempt to make his own wine from scratch in the South of France, the book also features flashbacks to his career as a musician and attempts to come to terms with life after living the rock and roll dream. Steve's collaboration with bass player Emmanuel Defay, under the name The Fountain of Youth, saw the release of the 'Coming of Age' album (2013) which highlighted his distinctive rich baritone voice (dubbed "the quintessential English voice" by Melody Maker), razor sharp social observations and personal reflections of love and loss. New songs are in the works for this show.

TRIM TAB MAN has showcased his music through the mind bending political satire, social commentary and sci-fi rock operas 'The Return of Trim Tab Jim' and 'The Manifestation of Trim Tab Jim' which he has performed at the Brighton Fringe Festival and at London's Union Chapel.
"A powerful, tight rock sound, which taps into peak-era Roxy Music and the radical grandeur of mid-70s Bowie" Brighton Music Blog
"A slick performance with a great message" Fringe Guru
"In an age where music can be bland and meaningless, this show stands out as a beacon of intelligence and commitment. And the music is superb..." Gonzo Weekly

The Brunswick Profile Pic

Description

The Brunswick has been transformed through an extensive refurbishment programme to become the premier music and arts venue in Hove. The owners are committed to providing quality, value for money and a friendly atmosphere. We believe that a pub is an essential part of any thriving community, and should be seen as a facility for the whole community. By encouraging local groups, we run a range of classes: acting, singing, painting, language, wine tasting; and have become a meeting place for a number of groups. With a large garden and a number of meeting rooms, we can offer space for most clubs, societies or social groups. If your looking for somewhere to host your book group, yoga class, dance class, debating club, and so on, give us a call, or better still, pop in. Support your local pub.

Built in the 1930’s, The Brunswick is a striking building with curved bays, turret roofs and brass crittall style windows. Much of the original paneling (the same as used in the Orient Express) has been rescued and restored, particularly in The Venue. Atmosphere and mood change as you move from the beautifully constructed sunny garden through the airy garden room to the bar (a fusion of the best of modern bar and traditional pub). Despite the high-tech sound and stage equipment, the music and arts Venue with its wood paneling, period lighting and fireplace retains a wonderfully cozy feel. Upstairs we have beautifully decorated rooms for meetings and private parties – see Function Room Hire

We offer a broad range of home cooked food every day. Accolades have included “Restaurant quality food at pub prices”; “The best Sunday Lunch in Brighton”; “As an American, I’m very critical of hamburgers – this is one of the best I’ve had anywhere.”
