The Real Music Club Presents .... Ken Pustelnik's Groundhogs + Paradise 9 Event Title Pic

Description

The Real Music Club seeks to find the best music we can that we believe will inspire and entertain. Focusing on originality and uniqueness we pride ourselves on putting something different on every month in Brighton & Hove. This month we present ....

KEN PUSTELNIK'S GROUNDHOGS: Way back in the halcyon days of rock there came a trio of 'superheroes' known as The Groundhogs. Riding the blues boom into unchartered territory, they gained a reputation as one of the most dynamic live acts around and are influential and inspirational to this day. The classic line-up of Tony McPhee, Ken Pustelnik and Pete Cruickshank toured the world for 6 years straight, including seminal shows with the Rolling Stones, John Lee Hooker, John Mayall, Canned Heat and at the legendary 1970 Isle of Wight Festival. In this time they produced four renowned albums 'Blues Obitury', 'Thank Christ for the Bomb', 'Split' and 'Who Will Save the World'. Now Ken brings you a new and exciting line-up - Ken Pustelnik's Groundhogs.

With deep respect for the legacy of the original Groundhogs, Ken's version of the band play the classic material with verve and power, energy and excitement, making it fresh and relevant to the modern day. Featuring Chris D'Avoine, known for his dynamic performances as a front man and his incendiary guitar playing, Sol Latif, a highly original guitarist with the technical ability to interpret the unorthodox and intricate guitar parts integral to The Groundhogs sound, and bassist Laitch Manghat whose heavy and hard driving style is a perfect foil to Ken's drumming, providing an awesome rhythm section of foot-stomping power and energy. 2020 has already seen a live album released (Live at Kozfest 2017) and the start of a successful tour with contemporaneous psychedelic-blues heavy rockers Stray, sadly curtailed by the Covid-19 enforced lockdown.

PARADISE 9: Psychedelic Space-Punk rockers Paradise 9 have a history of over 20 years, numerous line up changes, an array of special guest musicians including Nik Turner, Judge Trev, Angel Flame, Ron Tree, Jaki Windmill, Kev Ellis and Jeanette Murphy plus countless festival appearances at the likes of Glastonbury, Bearded Theory, Cosmic Puffin and KozFest. Now at an all time peak with their most stable and creative line up to date featuring Gregg McKella on vox, guitar, clarinet and synths, Neil Matthars on bass, Tyrone Thomas lead guitar and Wayne Collyer on drums the band are all set to launch new album 'Sci-Fi Reality'.

The new tracks "are really sounding awesome" and look set to build on the success of previous release 'Take Me to the Future' whose effortless mix of "psychedelia, punk, reggae, dub and just all those musical genres that represent facets of the counter-culture as a joined-up whole" (Ian Abrahams, Space Rock Reviews) earned rave reviews from Gonzo Magazine ("this is a bloody super album of magical sounds"), Starship Overflow (fantastic album .... Catchy songs ranging from Punk/New Wave to psychedelic to space dub-reggae") and more! Digital single 'Deconstruct, Divide and Rule' served as a teaser for the new material and can be purchased from bandcamp with all proceeds going to the Crisis charity.
