Owing to the public health crisis we sadly had to take the decision in March to pause all our events and temporarily put It Is still 1985 on hold.
We have been running the night every single Saturday in Brighton for 12 years, first as a weekly party at New Hero, then for 8 years at The Haunt (when it closed permanently in Aug. 2019, we had an unbroken streak of running every single Saturday the venue had ever been open in it's entire history) and now at Green Door Store. Since we moved to Green Door Store this past September we have had the most extraordinarily exciting chapter in the night's history, we have seen a level of fun we couldn't have even remotely predicted, so we want to sincerely thank you all for that, and for making us a local Brighton institution across what has now been more than a decade of Saturdays.
?However as the severity of the situation has unfolded, it has become clear that we are staring down the barrel of a long period of temporary closure even as others begin to return to work. This closure is hitting us hard both personally and financially, after 12 years of every Saturday it's quite a shock to not be running our events each week. The night has never been a big money making enterprise, and as such we always kept it at only £3 entry for the entire 12 years we have been doing it, not wanting to raise the prices on our loyal customers as others have. However at this point, dealing with what represents a 100% disappearance of income, completely out of the blue, literally overnight, with no end currently in sight, has been difficult to say the least.
?If our weekly Saturday night 80s shindig has meant something to you at New Hero, The Haunt or Green Door Store over the last 12 years, we are now asking, if you can afford to do so, that you consider sending us a donation, to help us survive this period and actually still be in existence when this is all over.
?We recognise that partying is not necessarily at forefront of people's minds at this time, and we know that 80s dancing isn't the most important thing in the world (we know some may disagree), and indeed some of you are not likely to be able to afford it, but if you can spare a little money (as little as £3 you would have paid for entry) you would be helping to support a small local events company through what is a very tough time for us. As such we would really appreciate any small amount from anyone who has enjoyed our parties over the last decade plus.
?We don't know when this will end (we suggest you subscribe to our mailing list to kept up to date with our plans) but it WILL end and when it does we are going to be party central every Saturday just as we have been for the last 12 years. Until then please look after yourselves, and if you possibly can, try to look out for those around you. See you all on the other side.
?It Is Still 1985 xx
