Russian Christmas With Daria Kulesh: Zoom Event

Event Type

Genre : Music - Folk/blues/world

Description

An enchanting evening of songs and stories from Russian folklore to mark Orthodox Christmas.

Daria Kulesh weaves snow covered tales blending the reality of her Moscow upbringing with beautifully bizarre fairy tales and folk customs. Her performances are refreshing, intriguing and ?full of passion and magic?. Navigating the strange new reality of lockdowns and livestreams, Daria was lucky to sing on the main stage of a real - perhaps the only? - UK folk festival in 2020, and has been performing on Zoom regularly from her cabaret kitchen.

To watch, you will need to buy a ticket - £10 per stream/household - install Zoom (ideally on your computer) and join the meeting with the ID and Passcode that will be sent to you. Daria is using specialist equipment to guarantee gig quality sound (remotely sound engineered) and HD video.

"You managed to make Zoom feel like an intimate and exclusive venue. How did you do that?" (Steve Hogg, The Old Refreshment Room)

Mixing her Eastern roots with Western folk influences, Daria creates an original and exciting sound - a celebration of her Russian and Ingush (North Caucasus) heritage. She has been described by Danny Farragher (Folk All) as ?the voice of fairy tales, being able to create the enthrallment of the faerie realm and equally bring terror as the evil queen whose very words could chill your blood and capture your soul?. "Bold, exotic, impressive" (fRoots), Daria shares stories and songs that are deeply personal but feel universal and timeless. Every performance is an "emotional, compelling and uplifiting experience" (Carn to Cove).

?One of the finest voices and one of the most intriguing and interesting songwriters on the present folk scene? (Mike Harding)
"Breathtaking voice. A true star" (Folk Radio UK)
"The songs aren't just sung, but lived" (FATEA Magazine)
