Jason McNiff ventures out from his south coast Sundowner lockdown home in Hastings to bring his music back onto the stage. And a long anticipated, welcome return to The Greys.
His signature acoustic fingerstyle is influenced by Davy Graham / Wizz Jones and owes a lot to close study of Bert Jansch's technique at a 12 Bar Club residency. With added flamenco, Italian and 'Alt. Country' /Americana influences.
Jason's lyrics reflect a love of classy literature, from Chekhov through Hemingway and Greek / Egyptian poet Cavafy.
A new album 'Dust Of Yesterday' (his seventh, including international Awards and nominations) is produced and engineered by Roger Askew (Joe Strummer, Wilko Johnson, Christy Moore) at his home studio in Eastbourne throughout the summer and autumn of 2020. All the songs here, in one way or another, speak of the past.
But it is not bleary-eyed nostalgia.

Special Guest of the evening, and playing in the McNiff trio, is Charlie Austen, who you may well have seen performing with Nine Below Zero or DIY indie band Lux Lisbon. She made a big impression with her fingerpicking folk-soul on Glen Tilbrook and Bryan Ferry, who each invited her to tour as opening act. Y'can't grumble at that, now can you...
