Brothers James and Sam Gillespie grew up in the Northumbrian village of Wall and sing finely crafted original and traditional songs. Rich with lyrical intensity and the sounds of soaring sibling harmony, guitars, flute, fiddle and mandolin, their second album ?The Fell' was described as ?a classic in the making? (Northern Sky) and as showing ?British acoustic music in its best possible light? (Folk Radio UK). The release of their third album 'The Merciful Road' sees them embark on a UK wide tour in 2022.

As well as the folk traditions of Britain and Ireland they are deeply inspired by the folk revival artists of the 60?s and 70?s including Bert Jansch, Nick Drake, John Martyn, Sandy Denny, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and the American roots folk and blues traditions.

The brothers have travelled widely since 2015, singing everywhere from concert halls to campfires, folk festivals and Parisian circuses. Their performances are often intimate and personal, animated by a rare energy that is both earthy and ethereal, romantic and radical.

By day our Cafe serves delicious home-cooked food, Fairly Traded coffee & tea and homemade cakes & pastries. All with a nod to local and ethical sourcing. We cater for Vegetarians, Vegans and dietary issues, just ask if you need anything not catered for on our menus. We also have a Delicatessen serving our own home-cooked food daily.

On Sunday to Thursday evenings we host the best acoustic music in the City, specialising in Folk, Roots and Americana.

On Friday and Saturday evenings the Cafe is available for private functions, weddings and parties, please call or email for more details.
