3 times British Blues Awards nominee, Mississippi MacDonald, is a leading force in the next generation of players who show off a high-level of comprehension of organic American music styles and the fluency, commitment, and internalisation needed to weave them together. His 7th album, Do Right, Say Right, released November 2021, is an energised and authentic set of nine new tracks of soul-infused blues that is another benchmark on a quest that began as a 12-year-old kid seeing Chuck Berry perform.
"It?s modern, it?s not musical archaeology,? says London-based soul-blues stylist Mississippi MacDonald of his music. "It celebrates a fantastic tradition. It?s soul-blues, and you?ve got to put your best into it.?
MacDonald knows that tradition. He?s been to Al Green?s church and heard him preach. He?s been to Willie Mitchell?s Royal Studios in Memphis, where the great records on the Hi Label were recorded. He?s seen Jerry Lee Lewis kick over his piano stool. He?s met B.B. King and Pinetop Perkins, Otis Clay and Sam Moore. Big Joe Turner told him to listen to Albert King. In 2008, he was a prime mover in finally getting a stone for the previously unmarked grave of soul legend O.V. Wright.
But it?s with his own music that MacDonald hits most directly. The latest single It Can?t Hurt Me entered the RMR UK Song Chart at no.23 and the album entered at no.18 on the RMR UK Album chart, having already come in at no.4 on the IBBA chart. There is a strong connection being made between Mississippi Macdonald?s brand of Blues and the listener.

QUOTES
Album of The Month, November ?21 ??this album and musicianship is off the charts good.. this, for me, is perfect blues?? Steve Beastie, HRH Blues
"A man from England called Mississippi with an ear for the classic and an eye on the future has nailed the Chicago sound. Never mind where he?s from, it?s all about where you are now, and this is sensational. Rating 9.5/10", Andy Thorley, Maximum Volume Music
?Mississippi MacDonald is a blues aficionado, a devotee?and listening to his latest album Do Right, Say Right, you could easily be convinced he?s from the Windy City. Or maybe Memphis. And you?d be wrong either way ? he?s from London. But having immersed himself in electric blues and Southern soul since he was in short trousers, that?s the kind of sound he produces. It?s so well put together. All the pieces are assembled with hand-crafted with precision and, one imagines, no small amount of luuurve?. Iain Cameron, Blues Enthused
?MacDonald?s songs are expressive, creatively written, and not loaded down with cliches. He?s also a strong and genuine singer who puts his lines across with fervor and belief. Combine that voice with a bold and tasty guitar style and you get a winner every time?..Mississippi MacDonald is a large talent who sounds like he?s finding his mode and blowing things up. Pick up Do Right, Say Right and make your own day. Highly recommended.? Mike O?Cull, Rock and Blues Muse
