Description

Guru Honey Badger- Rachel Darq from RNR Cabaret should need little introduction to Dublin Castle Bugbear regulars, her remarkable talent with the art of Burlesque is long established...but here she is performing the musical turn as well as the terpsichorean erotic one. 'Theatrical bonkers' as Madame Crumpet says herself, and vocally reminiscent of Daniele Dax with a bit of Siouxsie Sue - expressive, artistically alluring stuff it is too, even alarming at times, and musically both gothic (Sex Gang Children, Specimen) and proggy (Cardiacs), and with lots of punk rock tood. Deliciously unafraid to take risks, with some experimental turns and plenty of sassy noir.

Pollypikpocketz - with Myura up front providing the vocal and visual dynamite and an equally explosive mixture of hard rock, rancid metal, grinding grunge and perfect pop punk kicked up by Frog and his fellow amphibians behind, a Pollypikpocketz gig is always something to get excited about. Pleased to have them back again. Ooberfuse - ethereal nugaze electronica and occasional rap juxtaposed with singer Cherrie Anderson who has an excellent clear as a bell voice. The seductive music features interesting proggy bits amidst sweet dancy pop...also part Portishead portent and part Chvrches type dark cold wave technopop.

Whelligan - Surging psychedelics and sweetly honed post scally indie pop with a hefty dose of Pink Floyd but also a welcome hint of British Sea Power, The Chameleons or The Icicle Works- life affirming stuff.

Georgia Maria - Turbocharged troubadour-rocker, now with full kickass band, playing powerful, darkly poetic modern rock. And Tool covers! Influences - Heart, PJ Harvey, Stevie Nicks, The Who, Joni Mitchell, Grace Slick, Leonard Cohen, Joan Jett...

Description

The Dublin Castle is a legendary pub and music venue located 2 minutes away from Camden Town tube station. It has been run by the same family for over 28 years and features 4 live bands every night as well as a great selection of beers, ciders and wines.

There are DJs after the bands on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and a fabulous jukebox in the front bar if you’re after a more relaxed atmosphere.

But what is it that makes the Dublin Castle the long-standing centre of the indie rock universe? Is it because it’s Madness’ birthplace? Because its stage has been graced by everyone from Blur, through Coldplay, Supergrass, The Killers, The Arctic Monkeys, Billy Bragg, etc? Is it because it was no surprise to see Amy Winehouse behind the bar serving costumers? Or Suggs? (who, mind you, tended to ignore costumers and serve himself) Or is it because far from being just another Camden venue it has established itself as an indie rock institution? The answer is that it’s not only because of its musical heritage that people come to the Dublin Castle, it’s because whilst you enjoy a pint, play some tunes on the jukebox, check out the live bands, get your dancing shoes on for our DJs, chat to our friendly staff or even stage-invade a little, you’re inadvertently being part of this movement the Dublin Castle leads, this cultural legacy. Expect no castle battlements. Just pure rock and roll royalty.
