Performance storyteller Robert Lloyd Parry has spent over a decade touring a series of chilling, critically acclaimed one-man shows based on the ghost stories of M R James. In this new solo show, he draws inspiration from James?s great American contemporary, H P Lovecraft ? a stranger, sadder man, but one with an arguably even greater talent for bringing nightmares to life.
?Remarkable. Lloyd Parry is a natural storyteller, well able to hold, amuse and frighten his audience.? The Stage
GALLERY OF SCREAMS
Gallery of Screams takes two of Lovecraft?s celebrated ?weird tales? from page to stage in the classic Nunkie style ? one man, in the shadows, directly addressing a rapt audience.
In Lloyd Parry?s hands Lovecraft?s stories become unsettling confessions; two mysterious, hallucinatory, beguiling tales of terror, compellingly told by a pair of latter day ancient mariners.
Pickman?s Model introduces us to the uncannily brilliant work of the Bostonian painter Richard Upton Pickman ? a genius shunned by the artistic establishment because of his sickening canvases. But where in thunder does he get his ideas from? And what does he keep locked up in his cellar?
Lovecraft himself counted The Music of Eric Zann, another story of haunted genius, as among his best works. In Nunkie?s version, this story of an encounter between a philosopher and a musician in a shabby Parisian boarding house, comes to life as an eerie prose poem, full of mystery and tension ? a subtle riposte to those who dismiss its author as a mere peddlar of grand guignol effects and ancient tentacled gods.
