Description

Alasdair Pennington is a British musician, drummer and composer born in Greater Manchester, who in recent years has established himself as a unique and exciting voice on the drum kit in the UK creative and improvised music scenes. Based in London, he has performed with many eminent international artists including Helen Sung, Chad Lefkowitz-Brown, Baptiste Herbin, Alan Barnes, Laura Jurd, Dennis Rollins, Michael Dease, Steve Wilson and Robert Mitchell among many others.

Alasdair Pennington Quintet is a group formed and led by Pennington which showcases his compositions and arrangements. Pennington?s music seeks to convey expression, narrative and story through honest solo and group improvisation, on top of a backdrop of compositions which provide emotive soundscapes and lyrical melodic writing.

The music is set within a traditional, acoustic bebop-style line-up. This allows the group to draw influence from the catalog of great Black American music produced in an ensemble of this type, whilst still creatively pushing forward and looking for new ways to communicate and express ideas and narratives.
