Petty Theft are a new improvising trio comprising in-demand London-based musicians Adam Merrell (Tom Challenger), Sam Norris (Ronan Guilfoyle) and Harrison Dolphin (Zhenya Strigalev).
The trio's music flows through whimsical free improvisations, meditative drone-based pieces and good old three-chord blueses with the distinctive lineup of saxophone, guitar and drums. This instrumentation, which forgoes double or electric bass, opens up new textural possibilities. Traditional instrument roles can be reversed; Sam?s saxophone often softly accompanies Harrison?s guitar improvisations in its lowest register, while Adam?s gestural drumming frequently extends beyond a mere timekeeping role. Each player has the freedom to define their musical role however they wish at any moment, creating a lively and unpredictable group dynamic.
