Following on from our successful bleep and bass themed Cellar parties, Worthing Techno Militia presents a night celebrating the roots of rave and the golden era sounds of the UK's early underground rave scene. Expect bleeps, bass, breaks and general ravey revelry as we end the year with a proper old school tear up.
Who better to join us in these celebrations than a man who was at at the epicentre of it all in 1988. As part of the original Bizarre Inc line up and Nexus 21, Mark Archer was an early convertee to the new Techno sound of Detroit, filtering it through UK sensibilities to create a sound that would help define the first wave of UK Techno. His connection and work with Network records at this time specifically, also helped define the bleep and bass sound that originated in the midlands before spreading across the country and the globe. Nexus 21's track Self Hypnosis is considered a classic of the genre and stands up today as the perfect connective tissue between Detroit techno and UK Bleep.
When the UK's rave sounds started mutating from bleep into the early breaks of what would become the uniquely UK sound of hardcore, Mark was again there to ride the crest of that particular wave as one half of the band Altern8 where he achieved genuine mainstream success through his ability to capture the pure joyous rush of the best of the genre, whilst adding a tongue in cheek visual sensibility to it across music videos and legendary live performances. Eventually this success would take Mark, amongst other places across the globe, to Top of the Pops, where he became one of the few UK Techno / Rave acts to break through and grace our TV screens from that particular stage.
Since then Mark continues to tour and perform as Altern8 as well as record new material. The last Altern8 EP, Hard Crew was released in 2021 whilst he's released a string of recent music with frequent collaborator Shadow Child. As a DJ, Mark's truly celebratory sets that continue to joyously showcase music of those early years have been rocking the festival and old-school circuit for years now, where he DJs under his own name and his Altern8 moniker.
So come and join us for a rare chance to see the legend and man behind the mask in an intimate south coast beach setting and see out the year with a proper old school knees up.
As Worthing Techno Militia, we'll be bringing the support and if you've been to any of out bleep parties you'll know what to expect. if not, suffice to say we're a couple of old school survivors with the records to prove it.
