Tony Kofi -Baritone sax
Liam Dunachie - organ
Simon Fernsby - guitar
Pete Cater - drums
Award-winning multi horn-playing and internationally recognized saxophonist Tony Kofi , teams up with the 'Organisation', featuring Liam Dunachie on organ, Pete Cater on drums and Simon Fernsby on guitar.
Formed in the early 2000's as the house rhythm section for a selection of residencies in South London and elsewhere, the Organisation worked with many of London's leading jazz musicians but did not become a regular quartet until a serendipitous meeting with saxophonist Tony Kofi in August 2010. This association with Tony was the result of a last minute dep at Kent jazz institution the Eagle Tavern, Tony fresh from recording with Ornette Coleman in New York. Playing both alto and baritone on the date there was an instant affinity between the players, the Organisation's combination of both the Bluesy soul jazz side the Hammond canon, and their knowledge of the more modern post bop side of the repertoire (as typified by Woody Shaw's "Moontrane") working perfectly with Tony's approach. Their aim became to play unacknowledged classics, many from Blue Note repertoire from the "60's and elsewhere (indeed at one point they were playing all of the tunes from Grant Green's Blue Note album "Solid"). This approach was validated by the reception received for their 2018 debut album "Point Blank" (the title taken from the classic 1967 John Boorman film of the same name staring Lee Marvin and Angie Dickenson). Since it's release they have played numerous sold out shows at venues such as the Vortex, Sheffield Jazz and Kings Place (for Jazz FM as part of the London Jazz Festival) . They are currently preparing their follow up album to be released on Pete Cater's newly formed label" Mr PC records" and will include tunes in the jazz , blues and idioms by Pat Martino, Joe Henderson, Jo Sample and others.
