Following his 28-date UK-wide tour in the latter-half of 2023, Simeon Walker commences his follow-up autumn tour in November 2024 starting with us at St. Andrew's Church in Aylestone Village Leicester. Hosted by the St. Andrew's Initiative, we are a dedicated team of volunteers committed to creating and hosting events that bring the local and wider community together. Before we tell you a bit more about Simeon here's a bit more information about the night...
The concert will be held at St. Andrew's Church on Old Church Street, Aylestone Village, Leicester, LE2 8ND. Doors open at 7pm and the show commences at 7:30pm. All ages are welcome, but we ask that anyone under 16 is accompanied by an adult. Tickets are £10 each. Please note that parking within the immediate vicinity of the Church is limited so we recommend arriving in the area earlier and using nearby side roads. Local buses stop within a short 5 - 10 minute walk from the Church depending on your route.
An important aspect of Simeon Walker?s performance schedule in recent years has centred on visiting places across the country which can - sometimes - be overlooked on touring schedules. Fundamental to this approach is the belief that, in a post-pandemic world and the wider context of the funding challenges faced by grassroots venues and the wider music industry as a whole, good accessibility to live music has never been more needed.
This is reflected in Simeon?s aim to create space for collective, community-focused listening experiences, in which the boundaries between audience and performer are removed, amidst a sense of story, insight, intrigue, openness and vulnerability, alongside a long-term aim and commitment to ensuring classical and classical-influenced music can have greater reach and opportunity for engagement amongst younger and more diverse audiences.
These live music events predominantly take place in places and spaces - often embedded in the heart of a local community - which provide vital opportunities for people to gather together around shared experiences of cultural activity, including music venues, arts centres, churches, theatres, cafes and pop-up performance spaces; sometimes doing so quietly and consistently, with little fanfare, operating under knife-edge financial conditions, but with no-less enthusiastic, engaged and musically-curious audiences.
