A blend of virtuosic players, skilled producers and inspired composers join forces to create a unique, infectious sound drawing on jazz, hip-hop, afrobeat, dancehall, soul, reggae and dance music - expect ultra-tight musicianship and a powerful, big band sound.
Since forming in 2011 at the Leeds College of Music, Nubiyan Twist have risen to become one of the leading groups in the UK?s ever-evolving jazz and soul scene. Their 2015 self-titled debut album and the acclaimed ?Jungle Run? in Spring 2019 led to their third breakthrough album ?Freedom Fables?, released on Strut Records in March 2021. The album was heavily playlisted on BBC 6 Music alongside live BBC sessions with Gilles Peterson, Mary Anne Hobbs and Jamie Cullum alongside their UK TV debut on Later?with Jools Holland.

Live, the band?s powerhouse shows have won over audiences across Europe, rocking festival stages including Glastonbury, Wilderness, Love Supreme, Boomtown, Edinburgh Jazz Festival, as well as headlining London?s Outernet on their most recent tour.

The University of Leeds stands as a significant national asset, offering a diverse array of spaces for conferences, meetings, and events. Its central Leeds location positions it as a key hub for both academic and public gatherings, drawing delegates and visitors from across the UK and internationally.
Within its varied architecture, from Gothic Revival grandeur to contemporary designs, the atmosphere shifts from the hushed quiet of historic halls to the bright, functional clarity of modern conference suites. The scent of polished wood and old books might linger in some of the older buildings, while the hum of conversation and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee fill the air in more contemporary settings.
The campus provides extensive facilities, including Green Tourism Gold-standard accommodation and in-house catering. Accessibility is a priority, with wheelchair access and designated Blue Badge parking available across many venues. While not a single garden, the campus features green spaces, and refreshments, from casual coffee breaks to formal dining, are readily available through dedicated hospitality teams.
The University hosts a broad spectrum of events, from large-scale international congresses and academic seminars to corporate training days and private celebrations. It regularly accommodates workshops, exhibitions, and cultural performances, alongside significant community engagement initiatives and student-led activities.
