Description

Aldus Manutius is perhaps the greatest figure in the history of the printed book. In Venice, Europe's capital of printing, he invented the italic tyoe and issued more editions of the classics before or since, as well as "Hypnerotomachia Poliphii", the most beautiful and mysterious book of the Italian Renaissance.

This new monograph shows how Aldus redefined the role of a book printer to that of a learned publisher. He took part in the same debates as his contemporaries Leonardo da Vinci and Erasmus, making this book an insight into their world as well as his.

Oren Margolis is Associate Professor in Renaissance Studies at the University of East Anglia.

The event is on the first floor. There is a lift to enable access to the venue.
