When bones belonging to no known creature were found on a beach in 1811, leading scientists were forced to confront a disturbing possibility: that the Bible, as an acount of creation, was wildly wrong. Over the next 70 years, pioneering thinkers (most notably Darwin) took great risks to construct a new account of the Earth's origins. Impossible Monsters is their story.
This is Michael Taylor's second visit to StonyWords. In 2023, he came to speak about his book The Interest about the fight to abolish the slave trade. Michael works for PwC LLP and is a Visiting Fellow of the Eccles Centre for American Studies.
