Fruit and The Welly Club’s little sister, our favourite traditional boozer, The Polar Bear is a music venue steeped in history, having provided Hullians with live entertainment since the 1800’s.
The Fruit and Welly team have renovated the pub with a brand-new stage and seated beer garden, whilst still maintaining the ceramic bar (one of only 11 still to remain in the UK) and glass dome ceiling which have made our home a Grade two listed building, keeping the pub’s unique and traditional feel.
The Polar Bear provides a platform for local and national touring musicians every Tuesday with ‘The Sesh’ playing nothing but local music in between the three acts all evening, with DJs after the bands.
Celebrating good music is what the pub does best, and the venue has a variety of monthly nights that we’re very proud of. The Onion Club is a great example, offering a full night of soul, funk, ska goodness until the early hours, bringing the Bear obscenely good bands from across the country.
Freak Scene is another staple to The Polar Bear, alternative indie nights with bands that celebrate Hull’s uniqueness, from local garage bands, to supergroups that cover entire decades, cities, or bands discography’s.
Not forgetting our psychobilly monthly events, along with our DJ led nights such as DIG (serving us with vintage and new rock and roll) Disko Klubb (minimiland disco) The Kick Off (5 hours of vinyl records) and Guilty Pleasures (playing cheesy stuff we secretly all love)
