Molly No-Mates is hosting this hour-long Molly dancing workshop for anyone who would like to give Morris a go. They will be teaching their own dance to ?Hal-an-Tow?, a traditional May Day song (whose lyrics we have reworked). Singing along is also encouraged and printed lyrics will be provided!
All abilities welcome, wear whatever you are comfortable dancing in.
Molly No-Mates is Bristol?s premier queer, drag king Molly dancing team. Molly is a form of Morris dancing that gets its name from the tradition of featuring a man wearing a dress and apron- known as the Molly. The word ?Molly? has been used since the 18th century as both a slur and a self-adopted term for gay and gender non-conforming men, cross-dressers, trans women and male sex workers. It is a tradition with queerness ? though mostly unacknowledged ? in its DNA.
This event is part of Summer is Ready! Field System?s Mayday Celebration run in collaboration with our neighbours, Field System gallery.
